Justus Denney Selected for Lakota All Star Games

Isanti Community Schools senior Justus Denney has been selected to play in the Lakota All Star Games in Rapid City, South Dakota. Justus has stepped up this season as a leader on the Isanti Ozuyapi basketball team. On January 27th, he scored his 1,000th career point. When asked how he feels about being selected to play in the LASG, Justus says, “It makes me feel proud that I accomplished something and that I’m getting another chance to play ball.”

The Lakota All Star Games started in 2019 to give Indigenous high school basketball players the opportunity to play together. In 2022, they added a collegiate division. Throughout the year, LASG coordinator Dale Pine Jr. spends time scouting teams for possible participants in the Lakota All Star Games. Pine said, “Justus’ play was impressive at the LNI and I am glad that he committed to play.”

Justus will be on Team Tatanka with other players from South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Alaska.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 30 in Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City, SD. More information can be found at https://lakotaallstargames.com/ and the 2024 Lakota All Star Games Facebook page.
