Title I Program

Hello! My name is Tammy Kester and my new position for the 2017-2018 school year is Title I educator for Santee Community Schools. The Title I program supports academic growth in Language Arts and Math, K-12. The success of our Title I program depends not only with our teachers and students here at Santee, but also the active participation of family and community members. If you would like to participate in our Title I Parent Committee, please contact me at school. I would really appreciate your input on our Title I Parent Compact, Family Engagement Policy, and activities for our Family Nights.

Thank you for your support in making the educational process here at Santee Community Schools a one in which our students are successful learners!

What is the Title I Program?

Title I is a federal program that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies and schools with high numbers of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. These standards that students are preparing for are the MAPS assessments that students take in the fall, winter, and spring. The results of these test indicate student proficiency.

How did we become a schoolwide Title I Program?

Schools enrolling at least 40 % of children from low-income families are eligible to use Title I funds for schoolwide programs designed to upgrade their entire educational program to improve achievement for all students. Santee schools enrolls more than the required 40 % low-income students. The  percentage of low-income students are based on the percentage of students who received free and reduced lunches. This percentage also allows Santee Community Schools to work as a School-Wide Title I funded program and permits us to work with all students
