Title 1 Information

Isanti Community Schools

Title 1 Program

2020-2021

Hello! My name is Tammy Kester and I am the Title 1 Coordinator for Isanti Schools. I have been employed by Isanti Schools for 20 years, first for First Grade teacher for 16 years, and Title 1 for the last 4 years. The Title 1 program supports academic growth in Language Arts and Math, K-12. The success of our title 1 program depends not only on our teachers and students here at Santee, but also the active participation of family and community members. If you would like to participate in our Title 1 Parent Committee, please contact me at school. I would really appreciate your input on our Title Parent/Student/School Compact, Family Engagement Policy, and activities for our Family Nights.

Isanti Schools funds one full-time teacher with its Title 1 funds with myself. We also have one full-time paraprofessional, Corinna Harte, and one half-time Title 1 Teacher, Anna Heusinkveld. Between Corinna, Anna and myself, we work with students ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade this year. We work with varying group sizes, from whole group to pull-out, where some students are supported individually on needed reading and math skills.

Thank you for your support in making the educational process here at Isanti Community Schools a one in which our students are successful learners.

What is the Title 1 Program?

The Title 1 program is a federal program that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies and schools with high numbers of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. These standards that students are preparing for state the MAPS assessments that students take in the fall, winter, and spring. The results of these tests indicate student proficiency.

How did we become a school wide Title 1 Program?

Schools enrolling at least 40% of children from low-income families are eligible to use Title 1 funds for School wide programs designed to upgrade their entire educational program to improve achievement for all students. Isanti Community Schools enrolls more than the required 40% low-income students. The percentage of low-income students is based on the percentage of students who receive free and reduced lunches. This percentage also allows Isanti Community Schools to work as a School-Wide Title 1 funded program and permits us to work with all students.

Santee Schools Title 1 Parent and Family Engagement Policy

2020-2021

Santee Community Schools intends to follow the Title 1 Parent and Family Engagement Policy guidelines in accordance with federal law, Section 1116 (a-f) ESSA, (Every Student Succeeds Act) of 2015.

In General

The written District parent and family engagement policy has been developed jointly with, updated periodically and distributed to parents and family members of participating children and the local community in an understandable and uniform format. This policy agreed on by such parents describes the means for carrying out the requirements as listed below.

*Parents and family members of all students are welcomed and encouraged to become involved with their child’s school and education; this includes parents and family members that have limited English proficiency, limited literacy, are economically disadvantaged, have disabilities, racial or ethnic minority background or are migratory children. Information related to school and parent programs, meetings, school reports and other activities are sent to the parents of participating children in a format, and to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.

*Parents are involved in the planning, review, evaluation and improvement of the Title 1 program, Parent and Family Engagement Policy and the School-Parent Compact at an annual parent meeting scheduled at a convenient time. This would include the planning and implementation of effective parent and family involvement activities.

*Conduct, with meaningful parent and family involvement, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the Parent and Family Engagement Policy. Use the evaluation findings to design evidence-based strategies for more effectiveness parental involvement, and to revise the Parent and Family Engagement Policy.

*Opportunities are provided for parents and family members to participate in decisions related to the education of their child/children. The school and local educational agency shall provide other reasonable support for parental involvement activities.

*Parents of participating children will be provided timely information about programs under this part, a description and explanation of the curriculum in use, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress and the achievement levels of the challenging State academic standards. The school will provide assistance, opportunities, and/or materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s academic achievement in a format, and when feasible, in a language the parents and family members can understand.

*Educate teachers, specialized instructional support personnel, principals, and other school leaders, with the assistance of parents in the value and utility of contributions of parents, how to reach out to, communicate with and work with parents as equal partners.

*Coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs and activities with other Federal, State and local program, including preschool programs that encourage and support parents in a more fully participating in the education of their children.
